Until I saw this, I’d entirely forgotten about this upcoming title. Though that’s probably something to do with the fact that every Aliens themed game I’ve played to date (AvP Gold, AvP 2 and the most recent AvP), has been decidedly average. But that fact aside, it seems that Gearbox has decided that overall quality is something to be held above getting the game out quick, as the release date for Aliens: Colonial Marines has been pushed back from this Spring to Autumn.
Sega initially declined to comment, but CVG managed to get Gearbox to open up about the change in release date on the official A: CM site. The developer had this to say:
“Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention and those don’t necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line.
While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don’t want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date.”
Well that’s actually good to hear. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I would rather a game was delayed and worked on further before release, than released to soon and be filled with bugs and glitches that should have been ironed out in testing (Yes, I’m looking at you Saints Row: The Third).
So, with that in mind, Aliens: Colonial Marines is scheduled for an autumn release date on all 3 major platforms.
